Celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month kick-off on Sunday and run through October 15th! Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the history and culture of the Hispanic and Latinx communities. We take great joy in honoring diversity within our firm, as our organization stands united in fostering an inclusive workspace that champions personal authenticity. Hispanic Heritage Month is the perfect opportunity to recognize the contributions and achievements of the Hispanic and Latinx community – both within the company and across the globe. The theme for Protiviti’s 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations is “Unleashing your Potential.” This theme celebrates individual strengths and draws motivation from our tenacity, innovative spirit, and accomplishments. Throughout the month, Protiviti’s Latin Hispanic Employee Network Group (LHENG) will be hosting events to celebrate diversity and spotlight our workforce.

Leadership Spotlight

This month, we had the pleasure of catching up with Juan Solis-Robles, a Risk & Compliance Associate Director in our Chicago office. Juan joined Protiviti almost five years ago and he’s been a LHENG member since founding the Chicago Chapter in 2020. In addition to his professional work, he has been a board member of the ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) Chicago Chapter for three years and is currently serving as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development. This is one way that he is active in giving back to this community. We asked Juan about his experience within Protiviti, the community, his heritage, and what the theme of “Unleashing Your Potential” means to him.

What does LHENG mean to you?

LHENG has become the place where I network with individuals that share cultural similarities with me. LHENG also allows me to learn about different professional backgrounds.  LHENG has taught me to come as I am.

What community initiatives are you involved in?

I’ve been very involved in mentorship and anti-violence prevention for students.  In early 2024, I was part of a fellowship where I built an anti-violence and financial literacy after school program for middle school and high school students. This was an area missing from my youth. This program helps these students know that they are worthy of an education and professional success. In addition, I am involved with recruiting within the Hispanic community.

How has your Hispanic heritage shaped your leadership style or philosophy?

We legally migrated to the US from Mexico when I was 7 and my father was able to land a job rather quickly as a laborer.  However, my father always found side gigs to supplement our household so that we lived a decent life, and so that we could get a good education. My father taught me the value of taking ownership and doing your job with honor and decency. He taught me to always respect others not for what they do, but because it is always right to treat others with dignity and respect. Those values help me make better decisions at work that impact me, my colleagues, and our clients.

What does “Unleashing Your Potential” mean to you in your personal and professional journey?

I keep myself motivated by challenging myself to tap into my potential. I fought hard to earn my roles in corporate America, but I was always self-conscious of being the only Hispanic person. You hear the term “imposter syndrome” often, but it is very real. I had to convince myself that I was capable, and no person is better than the rest. It is about who puts in the work.  That mindset has given me the power to overcome the walls I mentally built around myself. Instead, I focused on building my own path to become a good father, friend, and colleague. I do it all so that one day my 5-year-old grows up to be proud of the person I have become in the same way that I have always been proud of my own father for helping me get there.
