Celebrations for Pride Month, which recognizes the LGBTQIA+ community throughout June, begin tomorrow! At Protiviti, we take great joy in honoring diversity within our firm, as our organization stands united in fostering an inclusive workspace that champions personal authenticity. Pride month is the perfect opportunity to recognize the contributions and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community – both within the company and across the globe. The theme for Protiviti’s 2024 pride celebration is “Power of Perception”, a theme meant to acknowledge the importance of our diverse identities and experiences while promoting empathy and understanding through perception. Throughout the month, Protiviti’s LGBTQIA+ Employee Network Group, proPRIDE, will be hosting events to celebrate diversity, encourage conversation, and inspire us to challenge our perception.

Today, we are sharing the story of one of our people, Logan. Read more below to learn about the importance of community in his experience.

When I came out as transgender, I thought I had an encompassing checklist of things I needed to do: tell my family and friends, update the name on my ID, and talk to a doctor. I later came to learn there was a much less tangible step in my transition, one too abstract to add to a to-do list: community. In finding a community that relates to a core part of my identity, my perception of the world changed, as did the perception I had of myself. Learning about all the different ways LGBTQIA+ community members choose to live authentically and express themselves introduced me to an abundance of possibilities in how I could express my own identity – it led me to discover an even more genuine version of myself that I never knew was possible.

Joining Protiviti exemplified how essential community is to have in all facets of life, including the workspace. Immediately upon joining the Protiviti, I was shown firsthand all the different ways Protiviti made an effort to carve out community for its employees – from my People & Culture Lead gathering resources to ensure necessary gender-affirming care was covered under my selected health insurance, to the swift encouragement to connect with colleagues through an Employee Network Group. Protiviti creates an environment for its employees that not only respects but champions their identities. Because I was able to feel secure in the workplace, I could build the confidence necessary to forge meaningful relationships with coworkers and clients. Further maturing my perception of the people around me allows me to mature my career skillset.

Pride month is a particularly special time because it allows for people from a medley of backgrounds to come together and affirm the struggles and accomplishments of the LGBTQIA+ community. In this celebration, the community offers a sense of understanding and support that strengthens the bonds we have with each other and our own identities. As I engage with my community this Pride, I will be grateful to be able to extend this time of solidarity to my workplace. I implore any LGBTQIA+ individual to seek out a place of work that recognizes the importance of inclusivity as Protiviti does.
