Naomi Wolak, a Managing Director in our Metro D.C. office, and Sarah Riesenberg, a Senior Consultant in our Denver office, have been recognized by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) as 2020 Women of Excellence. This annual award honors women who, while succeeding in their own right, also support the success of other women.
Naomi has been named in the Mentor Maven category which recognizes women who have made a powerful commitment to advising other women and helping them advance. Sarah has been named as a Rising Star due to her efforts in fostering the growth and development of women in technology and beyond.
Growing Our People
While her core focus is on Internal Audit, Naomi has worked tirelessly to build the Initiative for the Growth and Retention of Women in the Workplace (iGROWW) creating forums and networking events for our people and sponsoring community service activities. Naomi is a member of Protiviti’s Diversity & Inclusion global committee, an Executive Advisor for many women consultants in the D.C. office, and an informal mentor for women colleagues and clients. She plays an active role in recruiting women for the firm.
Naomi’s high-profile efforts to support her colleagues in their consulting careers have led to her status as a role model for women’s leadership in the firm. Whether she is working with clients, mentoring her junior colleagues, speaking at Protiviti’s Challenge internal training schools, or advocating for female employees with the executive team, she combines the highest level of professionalism with her trademark approachability and empathy. A natural connector, Naomi is able to motivate and influence people at all levels within the firm and build deep and lasting relationships with clients.
Bringing Women to Tech
Sarah is a founding member of Protiviti’s Employee Networking Group for Gender Equality in Tech (GET IT). Thanks in no small part to her drive and determination, GET IT now has a network of champions and an active membership of more than 350 employees globally, including male colleagues who participate as allies.
After moving to Protiviti’s Denver office, Sarah became the office Diversity and Inclusion lead. She established a partnership between Protiviti and STEMblazers, a Colorado-based nonprofit that aims to inspire middle- and high-school girls to visualize themselves in STEM professions. The Denver office has held fundraisers and hosted sessions with more than 40 students to discuss the challenges they face.
The office has also participated in Women Breaking Through virtual sessions to connect with more than 150 students and women professionals in technology. Future plans include hosting additional after-school activities and a virtual visit to the Protiviti Denver office with an estimated audience of 100 students.
Sarah has also facilitated partnerships between Protiviti and non-profits Girls Who Code and AnitaB, and with professional organizations CompTIA’s Advancing Women in Technology group and ISACA’s SheLeadsTech group. As a result, she has built a national network that reaches more than 80,000 girls and women interested in pursuing degrees and/or careers in STEM and technology fields.
