Twice annually, we have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate and recognize employees that have been promoted into a new role. And did you know that studies show the best way to get to know an organization is to learn about their employees? Well, I’m here to make that easy for you with #ProtivitiPromos – our month-long series that enables you to get to know our promotes from around the world.

Today, we meet Darryl from the Land Down Under and a newly promoted Manager in the Sydney office. With Protiviti since 2014, he has worked his way from a graduate consultant to management! When he’s not working, he enjoys rock climbing and spending time with his girlfriend and friends.

Let’s hear Darryl’s story.

When it comes to building a career, what piece of advice would you offer?

“Don’t be shy about telling your colleagues, advisors, and reviewers about your passions and areas of interest. Be positive when working on all projects even if you’re not as interested in some as others. Consider that as an opportunity to learn and demonstrate your commitment to delivering exceptional services to our clients.

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on at Protiviti?

“I worked on a transaction monitoring piece for a multinational bank in early 2018, and I felt like a complete rookie at the beginning of the project. Everything I said ended with a question mark. I was living on the edge for a good two months and experiencing the steepest learning curve. That said, I didn’t feel I was working alone, because all the senior team members on the project were always available to provide support, perspective, and answers to my questions. In the end, the project was a success, the client remains one of our key clients, and I got tons of invaluable experience out of this challenging but rewarding project.”

Tell us about a memorable career moment or memory that stands out for you.

“This promotion is a memorable moment. I worked on some very challenging projects in 2018. And despite putting in a lot of extra time and effort to deliver our client promises, I certainly still made some mistakes along the way that made me question my capabilities and objectives sometimes. But the sense of camaraderie within the office and the forgiving culture supported me through that difficult period, and it felt great to be recognized when this promotion was announced.”

At Protiviti, we love a little inspiration. What are some words of wisdom that have been impactful to you throughout your career?

“It’s important to network internally and be genuine in your intent to build long-lasting friendships.”
