At Protiviti, making an impact extends far beyond the work we do for our clients. It is rooted in our culture through our commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work. This summer, our interns experienced that commitment firsthand through service opportunities that connected teamwork, purpose and community impact.
As part of Protiviti’s award-winning internship experience, interns participate in Liftoff with Protiviti and The Intern Challenge, a collaborative learning experience designed to help them develop consulting skills while building relationships with peers from across North America.
Turning Teamwork into Community Impact
During the immersive training, interns worked together to transform a team-building activity into a meaningful service initiative. Across both internship cohorts, participants donated nearly 2,000 pounds of food to the Central Texas Food Bank and San Antonio Food Bank, helping support communities in the region that hosted their onboarding experience.
The decision to donate locally was intentional. As interns gathered in Austin for training, they learned about the growing need for food assistance during the summer months, when many children and families lose access to school-based meal programs. By supporting local food banks, interns were able to make an immediate impact in the communities where they were learning, connecting and beginning their Protiviti journey.
Supporting Protiviti’s i on Hunger Mission
Every donation contributes to Protiviti’s broader commitment to addressing food insecurity through our ionHunger initiative. Using the USDA conversion rate of 1.2 pounds of food equaling one meal, the food collected during the two Intern Challenge events translates to approximately 1,660 meals for individuals and families facing hunger.
For interns, the experience was about more than the numbers. It was a chance to see how collective action can create meaningful change and how even small contributions, when multiplied across teams and offices, can have a significant impact on a community.
Multiplying the Impact Through Dollar-for-Doer
The impact of these service efforts did not end when the food was delivered. Protiviti’s Dollar-for-Doer program helps amplify volunteer efforts by providing charitable contributions based on employee volunteer hours. Through the support of employees who volunteered alongside interns throughout the summer, close to $4,000 in additional charitable contributions has already been generated to the Central Texas and San Antonio Food Banks with new action-based fundraising being submitted daily.
Continuing to Give Back in Local Communities
The impact did not end when interns returned to their local offices. Throughout the summer, interns have continued to support communities across North America through Protiviti’s ionHunger and broader iCare initiatives. In Orlando, the office along with their interns partnered with the Ronald McDonald House to help pack family hygiene kits to help make their hospital stays more comfortable.
In Houston, interns volunteered with Kids’ Meals, preparing and packing lunches for children facing food insecurity. In St. Louis, interns networked alongside office leadership as they build necessary furniture for Home Sweet Home St. Louis to help families create spaces that support stability, comfort, and dignity.
These experiences are just a few examples of how interns are continuing to make a difference in the communities where they live and work; reinforcing that service is not a single event at Protiviti but a year-round commitment.
Building the Next Generation of Purpose-Driven Leaders
While our interns are contributing to our clients, learning new skills, strengthening relationships, and exploring a potential career path. They also discovered that making a difference in the community is an important part of the Protiviti experience.
The nearly 2,000 pounds of food donated during The Intern Challenge tell an impressive story. But the story is even bigger than the numbers. It is a story of interns working together, embracing service, supporting local communities and living our values.
This summer’s intern classes demonstrated that meaningful impact starts with people who are willing to serve.
