Kristen Viniotis is a Managing Director in our Internal Audit and Financial Advisory Practice based in our New York City office. She joined Protiviti as a Director on January 4, 2023, and was promoted to Managing Director in early 2024. Previous to Protiviti, Kristen was a Senior Director in Internal Audit at a large manufacturing and distribution company.
Kristen’s Story
When you were considering your next career move, what led you to consider consulting as an option?
I was attracted to a career in consulting for several reasons, including the opportunity to engage in varied projects, gain exposure to a breadth of industries, and the ability to enjoy a substantial degree of autonomy and flexibility. I was also intrigued by the extensive networking opportunities that come with working for a highly regarded consulting firm, and my network has grown significantly already in the year I’ve been with Protiviti.
What has been your biggest “aha” moment in moving from an executive position in industry to consulting?
When I realized the extensive expertise and value I could provide my clients as their trusted advisor, I knew I found my professional home with Protiviti. This is where I belong. The experience I’m gaining through the variety of projects and the enriching network of subject matter experts I’ve been able to work beside is providing me with a fulfilling and rewarding career. My only regret is that I didn’t join Protiviti earlier.
What have you been pleasantly surprised by during your time with Protiviti?
The collaborative and supportive environment was such a pleasant surprise! Throughout my transition from a career in industry, everyone extended their support and guidance to ensure I had the tools and resources to be successful. I realized very quickly why Protiviti is highly respected, winning awards like Forbes 100 Best Companies to Work For and Glassdoor’s Employees Choice Award for Best Places to Work. Can you share some of your ‘keys to success’ with your recent promotion to Managing Director?
The importance of adaptability, communication, and strategic thinking are critical to navigating a career in consulting. Protiviti invests in their people, and I consistently encourage other team members to capitalize on the variety of professional development resources, expansive thought leadership, and access to subject matter experts available within the firm. It’s important to continuously pursue opportunities for both professional and personal development, and Protiviti excels in providing you with the support necessary for your ongoing journey.
What is the best career advice you would give or that you have received from a career advisor and/or mentor?
The best advice I’ve received is, “Don’t go it alone.” Everyone brings a unique skillset. Protiviti fosters a culture of collaboration, making it essential to leverage your network and embrace the support of the people around you. My recommendation would be to build a robust network of mentors and peers who can offer guidance and support to you throughout your journey; as the saying goes “Success is best when it’s shared.”
