What is something that being a parent has taught you? AND What do you hope to inspire in your kids?
I know it sounds cheesy since this is what I do professionally for all at Protiviti, but I hope to inspire them to be inclusive and to feel a sense of belonging. When I truly think about it, my children have been some of my biggest teachers of these values back to me as their mom. I think every parent has dreams and visions of who their children will be. But throughout my time as a mom, I am reminded of how important it is to let them be themselves, to foster that sense of authenticity, and to give space to their voices. Each one of them are so different than I expected, from their interests and passions to their views on life. I love listening to them (even when I disagree or “think I know better”), only to find that THEIR voices matter, THEIR perspectives are important, and THEIR paths are their own to create. In me (and my husband), I hope they always find a sense of HOME, to know that they always have us as their safe place…a place they always belong to be fully loved as their truest selves.

Katie – Learning Portfolio Leader, Learning and Development
What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
Watching this tiny human learn and grow. Seeing things through his eyes has given me a perspective that I couldn’t fathom before being a mom. And the simple moments…
What is something that being a parent has taught you?
How much we assume things, specifically things we think people know or should know. It has really made me think about what I say, how I say it and consider what people may or may not know coming into an interaction.
What do you hope to inspire in your kids?
Kindness and the mindset that he can overcome things that are hard.

Angela – Manager, Technology Consulting
What do you hope to inspire in your kids?
My aspiration is for my child to discover his genuine sources of happiness in life much earlier than I did. That he is able to have tough skin but a caring and nurturing heart and understands fully when and how to effectively use both. I hope to inspire in him that you can be successful in spite of, and not just because… meaning success can be achieved in spite of obstacles, not just because of favorable conditions. Even when things don’t go according to plan, I want him to understand that his aspirations are still attainable.
What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
First and foremost, my favorite aspect of being a mother is the unwavering certainty that I was destined to be Christian’s mother! It feels like a match made in heaven. Additionally, I delight in observing my child grow and develop, seeing him learn, mature, and acquire new skills. Experiencing the true sense of unconditional love, creating my own family memories, and rediscovering the world through my child’s eyes. In my 6 years of being a mom, I have grown and been reconditioned in ways that I didn’t know I needed, and I am enjoying the journey!

Caitlin – Manager, Employee Experience
What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
The giggles, the snuggles and the new discoveries! My daughter is 16-months old, and every day brings a new skill, dance move, or facial expression (she definitely has her mom’s attitude!). There’s an unexplainable joy that comes with watching your baby grow.
What is something that being a parent has taught you?
One of the hardest, but most important things that I’ve had to learn is to give yourself grace. Parents tend to be really hard on themselves, and I think that can be especially true for moms. We/society put this pressure on ourselves to “get it right” and be the perfect role model for our children – and the reality is that there is an unconditional love our kids will offer us; they don’t hold us up to any expectations. Be kind to yourself, give yourself grace, and just enjoy the moment!
What do you admire about parental figures?
I think the community that comes along with being a parent is a special one. It would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that I was a stepmom before I became a bio mom – there’s an extra special space in my heart for that community and the unique challenges we face in that space. To all the “moms” – bio moms, stepmoms, adoptive moms, etc. I see you and the hard work you are doing!!
What do you hope to inspire in your kids?
I hope that I can inspire my kids to take chances, be bold and not be afraid to fail. But perhaps most importantly, I hope my kids always lead with kindness and empathy.
