Each Veterans Day, we pause to recognize the service, sacrifice and lasting contributions of veterans across our communities. It is a moment to express gratitude to those who have served in the armed forces, acknowledge the courage that protects our freedoms and reflect on the ways military service continues to shape leaders long after their time in uniform.
At Protiviti, that spirit of service is reflected in the people who bring their military experience, resilience and commitment to teamwork into their careers every day. Through Protiviti’s Military Employee Network Group, we are proud to create community for colleagues with prior or ongoing military service, military families and supporters, while also strengthening how we attract, retain and support military-connected talent.
Building community and supporting military-connected professionals
Protiviti’s Military Network was established to positively impact the careers of employees with prior and ongoing military service and provide a community for military families and supporters. The network also helps Protiviti continue to attract and retain talent from this unique talent pool by building awareness, fostering connection and partnering across the business.
The Military Network’s work spans several important priorities: expanding community across offices, supporting recruiting efforts, improving benefits and resources for veterans and actively serving Reservists and National Guard members, and providing support for employees and families connected to deployment or service. These efforts help create an environment where military-connected colleagues feel valued, connected and empowered to thrive.
The network has also continued to grow its impact through community service, veteran-focused giving and firmwide recognition moments. Recent efforts have included local chapter service opportunities, care package initiatives for deployed service members and hospitalized veterans, charitable support for veteran-serving organizations, and Veterans Day programming that creates space for reflection, learning and appreciation.
Leadership spotlight Q&A: Jon Medina
For this year’s Veterans Day spotlight, we are proud to recognize Jon Medina, Managing Director – Security & Privacy whose leadership reflects the values of service, resilience and collaboration at the heart of Protiviti’s Military Network.
Q: What does Veterans Day mean to you personally or professionally?
A: Veterans Day is a special time for me because I use it as a reminder to reach out and stay in touch with people from my time in the military. I am not always the best at keeping up with people, so on Veterans Day I check in on people I served with, see how they’re doing and make sure we stay in touch.
Q: How has your connection to the military shaped how you lead?
A: One of the most important lessons the military taught me was the value of decisive action in uncertain situations. There are times when the right answer is not obvious, but leaders still need to make a decision, own it and remain agile enough to adjust as new information or changing circumstances emerge. This approach is important because it gives teams direction and confidence while still leaving room to learn, adapt and improve as conditions change.
Q: Why is Protiviti’s Military Network important for employees and the broader firm?
A: The Military Network gives people a place to connect through shared experience, whether they served themselves, supported someone who did or simply want to be an ally. The transition from military service into a corporate environment can be a big adjustment, and having people around who understand that experience makes a real difference. What has been especially meaningful is seeing that sense of community extend beyond Protiviti. Our employee group has partnered with client employee groups on events, mentoring, resume reviews, mock interviews, guest speakers and other veteran-focused efforts. Those partnerships create stronger relationships with our clients while also giving us a practical way to support the broader military community together.
Q: What is one way colleagues can support or engage with the Military Network year-round?
A: One of the easiest ways to support the Military Network is simply to show up consistently. Attend events, be an ally and make yourself available to people who may be navigating the transition from military service into a corporate environment. Sometimes the most helpful support is answering basic questions about how things work, from business norms and communication styles to the day-to-day expectations that can feel unfamiliar at first. Additionally, employees can help extend the network’s impact by connecting our Military Network with veterans and employee groups at our clients. Those introductions can lead to joint events, shared mentoring, collaboration and stronger relationships that support veterans inside and outside the firm.
Through my work with the San Francisco Military Network, I have tried to create practical spaces where veterans can connect with each other, with employers and with resources that support the whole person. That includes veteran events with clients, Fleet Week get-togethers, resume reviews and mock interviews, and networking spaces that help veterans make connections tied to healthcare, jobs and mental health support. For me, that work reflects what the network is at its best: a way to build community, open doors and bring people together around shared support for veterans.
Continuing the commitment
Veterans Day is an important moment of recognition, but supporting veterans and military-connected colleagues is year-round. Protiviti’s Military Network continues to focus on building community and career development, improving resources and benefits, and creating opportunities for colleagues to give back to the military community.
As we honor Veterans Day, we extend our gratitude to all veterans, active service members, Reservists, National Guard members, military families and supporters. Their service and experiences continue to inspire leadership, resilience and purpose across our firm and beyond.
To every veteran and military-connected colleague: thank you for your service, your leadership and the impact you make every day.
