One of the things that makes Protiviti truly great is our commitment to inclusion. As a part of this value in action, we’re celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month for the duration of May. This month, we’ll host a series of events, webinars, and learning opportunities to showcase Asian American and Pacific Islander voices as they share about their culture, family history, and even cuisines!

AAPI Heritage month is a chance to recognize and honor the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements in the United States. As an extension of that, we’re thrilled to honor our AAPI teammates.

ASPIRE to Greatness

Protiviti’s Asian Social Professional Innovative and Resourceful Employees (ASPIRE) Employee Network Group’s goal is to advance Pan-Asian leadership within Protiviti to help promote the diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts through collaborations and community involvement.

A large part of that collaboration is with North America’s largest Pan-Asian business professional membership organization, Ascend. We’re so proud to join them in the mission to drive workplace and societal impact by developing and elevating al Asian and Pacific Islander business leaders and empowering them to become catalysts for change. Ascend offers impactful career lifecycle and cross-industry leadership programs and networks that foster community and engagement for Pan-Asian business professionals and students, corporate partners, and the community at large. Protiviti’s ASPIRE Employee Network Group (ENG) works closely with Ascend in fascinating memberships, networking opportunities, and professional development.

We’re so grateful and excited for ASPIRE to host and teach us about their experiences this month through educational discussions, a Trivia and Boba event, a movie night, and even a historical cookbook of recipes and family stories gathered from our ASPIRE teammates across Protiviti! We’ll cap off celebrations at the end of the month with a Leadership Panel, where our teammates will join Protiviti’s Asian leaders as they discuss their experiences with career development, relationship-building, and self-confidence in both large groups and small breakout sessions designed to deepen connection and discussion.

“I want people to feel celebrated, proud of where we are today, and encouraged by our community. There is still a lot of work to be done, and we can forge that path together,” says Isabel Esclamado, ASPIRE’s Programming and Education Pillar Lead. “For me, this month is about leveraging the strength of where we come from to continue building up our AAPI community.”

Meet One of Our Members

This is the second year ASPIRE is hosting AAPI Heritage Month events. Last year the group highlighted AAPI leadership stories and provided educational materials on the History of Asian American and the Model Minority Myth, including events with external speakers on trailblazing new paths.

For Isabel, being involved in ASPIRE is supporting a growing sense of pride in her heritage.

“Growing up in a mostly white community, I subconsciously suppressed my ‘Asian-ness,’ even when I was around others in the AAPI community. Now as I’ve matured into unashamedly owning who I am, AAPI Heritage Month is an opportunity to hyper-focus on celebrating the culture that has helped shape me. With ASPIRE, I am so encouraged to be surrounded by people who understand and are advocates for my background as an Asian American. I’m excited to continue learning and growing!”
