This afternoon Protiviti’s San Francisco office partnered with Girls Inc. and their Middle School All STARS Field Trip Program on an afternoon of education and fun. Girls Inc. is a nonprofit organization that focuses on giving confidence to girls. The program gives girls in grades 6-7 an opportunity to visit various workplaces to experience a professional environment and connect with leaders in the field.
Our day started with a fun Icebreaker for the Protiviti interns and employees and well as the Girls Inc. crew. We wanted everyone to have a little bit of fun getting to know one another. Following the icebreaker, Protiviti Director and Diversity and Inclusion lead, Nicole K. gave an introduction to Protiviti and provided an overview of our organization for the group.
Next, was the main event for the day – a scavenger hunt around San Francisco! This scavenger hunt was a little different than a normal scavenger hunt though. To help teach the girls about Protiviti and what we do, we asked them to find and identify risks and controls around San Francisco. To help lead this hunt, our Girls Inc. crew paired with some of our Protiviti interns.
One fun example the girls came up with was the risk of “getting sunburnt at the Giants game” and then the control of “wearing sunscreen and a hat”. With these concepts in mind, the girls were all able to grasp an understanding of what we do here at Protiviti!
Before the day ended, we hosted a “speed dating” type of activity. The intention of the activity was to provide a bit of mentoring to each girl by having a quick 2-3 minute conversation. This quick talk allowed us the chance to ask each individual girl questions about herself and allowed us time to answer any questions she had.
We wrapped up the day with a lessons learned and picture slideshow. All in all, everyone had a really great time and the day was a huge success!
