The Kansas City Office volunteered their time for the Intern Day of Service to Harvesters Community Food Network. There were 18 KC Team members on hand including 9 family members that joined in on the effort. The group helped package boxes of food for senior citizens for 3 hours at the facility, which would be eventually distributed to various food pantries throughout the region.
Harvesters is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. It also offers education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and teach about good nutrition.
Harvesters’ main facility is located in Kansas City, Missouri and also operates a second facility in Topeka, Kansas. This major food bank is a certified member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks. Harvesters is also one of five regional disaster relief staging sites for Feeding America. It continually stores a supply of food, water and cleaning supplies that can be sent to a disaster site on short notice.
