Protiviti has a strong emphasis on diversity and giving back to the community. Recently, the non-profit organization I am involved with, Project by Project, was looking for corporate sponsors for our 15th Annual Plate by Plate Tasting Benefit. I reached out to Chris Wright, the lead managing director for Protiviti’s East region. It didn’t take much to convince him that this was a perfect match for Protiviti’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative. Not only did our firm provide monetary support, we also offered our conference room to Project by Project for its weekly meetings.
Project by Project is a national volunteer-based organization with chapters in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Each year, Project by Project partners with a different non-profit group and helps to raise money, raise awareness, and improve their outreach in the community. With a focus primarily in the Asian-American community, the 2013 “Plate by Plate” event was held on behalf of the Film News Now Foundation, a group centered around powerful and enlightening documentaries that bring to light both contributions and social injustices that affect Asian Americans. The event was hosted at 82Mercer on a Friday evening in October.
Our own senior consultant, Tara Szczepanski, the reigning Miss Earth New York, was a special VIP guest at the event. Other Protiviti professionals in attendance included Alex Cacanando (Senior Consultant), Amy Cho (Manager), Megan Colson (Operations Team Member), and Tracey Feldesman (Senior Consultant). Guests enjoyed “Smoked Yunnan Spiced Beef” from Yunnan Kitchen, Shigure’s “Roasted Duck” with pickled Oriental melon, Thalassa’s creamy and sweet “Lobster Pumpkin Bisque Kataifi,” Yeba Buena Perry’s “Tacos De Costilla,” Edi and the Wolf’s “Lightly Torched Arctic Char,” refreshing drinks from Murray Hill haunt Middle Branch, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Johnnie Walker, Bombay Sapphire, and even pours of VOSS Water to make sure we were well hydrated as the event progressed.
The event was a ton of fun and the cause, of course, was meaningful! My takeaway from this experience: if you are interested in community service and diversity and inclusion, you can definitely find a place for them at Protiviti!
